Special Council Mtg., CBC Agenda, MUD News, End of Week

The City Council will meet in Special Session May 24th. Here is the agenda.

The City Building Commission will meet in regular session next week also on May 27th. Here is the agenda for that meeting.

I've been told that Mike Willatt has resigned from his post as Attorney for the Lakeway MUD.

Courtesy of Steve Jones, City Manager:

It is reported that the Hwy 71/ Serene Hills project is on schedule. All culverts are complete, traffic signal co. started installing the infrastructure for the signal and the point of service for the power from PEC has been established. Scheduled completion date is around the first of July.

Some of the roads in Rough Hollow have some issues and their project manager says they started today to address this. They will start with curb repairs, then manhole adjustments and will finish up with paving - should be completed next week.

The City will soon advertise an opening to replace Christy Fath who resigned last Monday. Donna Boyle has been appointed as Acting City Secretary and this will hopefully be approved at Monday's special meeting.

Since the City stopped the annual brush cleanup service there has been much thought given to a way for residents to get rid of clipping and trimmings. Mr. Jones and David Ferry are working on a solution that will provide a place for disposal of these items - stay tuned for more.

The new Juvenile Community Service Program has already been a success. The City has been able to hire a part time supervisor and coordinator using specific court fees set aside for this purpose, thereby costing the City nothing! This is a great resource for litter control and washing city vehicles and cleaning city parking lots!

Thanks Steve!

I will be out of town for about a week so stay tuned for an update after I return!

Council Update, MUD Update

The re-elected members of the Lakeway City Council, Dee Ann Burns Farrell, Bruce Harris and David Taylor were sworn in on a very stormy night in the Council Chamber by Judge Madison. Congrats!

Dee Ann Burns Farrell was elected Mayor Pro Tem by the Council unanimously. Congratulations Dee Ann!

All of the rest of the items on the Agenda were approved by Council.

Today, the MUD Board of Directors met in regular session. The election returns were canvassed and approved, and appreciation was given to Tom Rogers and Al Tyson for their service for the MUD.

After some discussion, Karl Ansbach was elected new President of the Board, after even more discussion, Jerry Hietpas was elected V.P. and Kay Andrews was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

The General Managers report was accepted and the BOD went into special session to discuss the ongoing litigation between Richard Eason and Kay Andrews. The BOD reconvened and the Board made the statement that they were going to seek independent counsel and it would be on the agenda next month.

Veterans Tribute, Week at a Glance

If you haven't visited the Veterans Traveling Tribute yet or even if you have the program Sunday at 6PM promises to be a GREAT event! Here is a link to my pictures from the Saturday program. Pictures

Highlights from Steve Jones Report!

Looks like the regional medical center will get their building permit next week - they have been working through the issues and it appears to be on track!

The City switched from AT&T to Logix last week - a 30% savings is promised and so far so good.

Sales tax receipts for this month are 23.9% higher than May of last year. This is good for the City and will help it stay in the black!

There will be a budget item on Monday's Council agenda to approve the purchase of a new computer aided dispatch system. This is not a big surprise because of the issues the Police have been dealing with in the old system. More on this soon.

The City is getting close to posting results on the survey that was launched April 22. They are leaving it open for a couple more weeks and they will post the results as soon as its closed.

Be sure to attend the ceremonies at the LT High School football field today - starts at 6:30 PM. The exhibit is open 24 hours a day for viewing also. Come a little early to take advantage of the displays!

The largest and most impressive is the 80% scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

Special festivities will begin at 10AM May 15th with a F16 flyover, Lakeway's Sing Along performance, University of Texas Coach Ken Rucker, Dottie's Follies Dancing Ensemble, Gateway Brass Band and Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans Firebase Ceremony.

Sunday's events include a performance by Heather Wiley, comments from B.G. "Jug" Burkett, a performance by Kira Small, "God Bless the USA" by LTMS student Kalie Naftzger, a performance by Granger Smith and ending with a fireworks display.

Here's some news from Steve Jones!

Mr. Suren Suthar, owner of the Holiday Inn site has agreed to accommodate our entry monument on his property. Thanks!

The City is working on new contracts to improve the look of the landscaping at our entries and medians. This will cost a little more but I for one thing it is money well spent!

The City is looking for an intern to perform a study on the economic impact the new medical center will have - long term it will be substantial on our economy and the budget.

The City engaged a consultant this week to perform a sales tax audit. She will research businesses within our city limits to find those who are not collecting and remitting the city's sales tax. She has already had success with one business and hopes to find more.

Austin Energy has finished installation of our two new streetlights at the intersection of RR 620 and Debba Dr. They will improve the safety of this busy intersection.

Chief Todd Radford has started planning our "Public Safety Day and Bike Rodeo" tho be held on Saturday, June 26th from 9am to 4pm. More on this as it becomes available.

Our new Financial Manager Julie Oakley is hitting the ground running! I saw her today touring the Hamilton Greenbelt as she is trying to get to know the City and City functions better. Welcome aboard!

That's all for now!

From Steve Jones Weekly Report:

Carrie Burns has identified two new oak wilt centers, one on Palos Verdes and one on Indian Bend Drive. Please follow all the oak trimming rules and lets try to keep our oaks healthy!

Greg DeLong reports we currently have 22 homes repossessed and 22 others that are in the process of being sold by the lender. This accounts for about 1% of our housing stock and is about normal for Lakeway.

Our new Financial Manager, Julie Oakley has prepared RFP's for our local banks. State law requires we publish notice and the city wasn't able to get it in the paper in time for the May 17th Council meeting. It looks like there will be a special session this month because the current agreement expires June 1st. More on this as it happens.

Last year the City purchased a new computer aided dispatching software system for the Police Department - it turns out the new system is unsatisfactory and after continued efforts with the vendor the City will need to change the system. Hopefully arrangements can be made for a refund that will pay for a new system.

The City Staff is working on a "short term" rental ordinance and expects to have a draft in a few weeks.
